ONEHUNGA ODDFELLOWS.
There was a large attendance of tha brethren of Loyal Manukau Lodge, 1.0.0.F.. M.U., on Monday night. Bro. F. Langton, P.G., installed the following office-bearers for the ensuing term:—N.G., Bro. H. Barr, J., B. Morton, A. A. Creamer conductor, Bro. L. Perrin. The secretary's annual report and balance-sheet showed a substantial increase in membership, with the finances in a sound condition.
DEVONPORT BOROUGH COUNCIL. The Devonport Borough Council met last night. The Mayor (Mr. William. Handley), presided, and there were also present :i Messrs. G. W. Ravenhill, T. Considine, H. Wilding, J. Taylor, R. H. Froude, J. R* Gascoigne, and Dr. W. G. Guinness. Mr. Gaseoigne, who was recently elected, was welcomed by the Mayor on taking his seat) for the first time.
A letter from the Chief Healt-k.-Gflicer (Dr. Valintine) was received asking the Council to act as at present- in regard to the control of infectious- diseases in their •district- until the necessary machinery to give effect to the amendment in the law was put in motion. The matter was referred to the Legal and Financial Committee for consideration, some of the councillors taking exception to the change on the ground that they would be contributing money without having a voice in its expenditure. Messrs. Bogue and Sons submitted a, time-table for a 'bus sen-ice to Cheltenham Beach, and the matter was referred to the Streets and Works Committee. The engineer reported that owing to the dry weather it was necessarv to employ the old pumping plant, as 14,800,000 gallons had been pumped since January 1, ana. 20.000,000 gallons would be required by the end of the month. He stated he could cope with the quantity with the two pumps going. Building permits were granted for fivenew dwellings, two alterations and additions and two sheds.
