CIVIL SERVANT'S SUICIDE.

; \ . Christchurch, Monday. . The police were informed this afternoon that Mr.-Arthur Calcott, who has - been'< for some years an officer of the Agricultural Department, and 'who has recently been acting as> chief clerk of the Christchurch office of the '/Department, had died suddenly at his residence, Durham-street, St. Albans, under., circumstances suggesting suicide. Dr.. Goulburn Gibson was called in by Mr. Calc.ott's family, but could do nothing, Mr. Calcott expiring shortly after the- doctor's arrival. At the inquest . held this evening .»• verdict of suicide while of unsound mind was returned, -
