YACHTING.
An ocean race was bold under the auspices of the Royal New Zealand Yaolit Squadron, oil Saturday afternoon. 'Die course was from tlie Queenstreet Wharf, round Oanoe Rock, off Kawau, thence round Shag. Rock, and through the Satidspit Passage, finishing between the heads in Mateatea Bay. The length of the course was 73 knots. : The following' were the entries and handicaps:— riki, scratch; Rawene, 40m.; Ma-ran gi, lh. 20m.; Victory, ' lh. '20m,; Aorere, Ih. 40m.; Daisy, 2h. 30m. The yachts passed Tiri about 4.30. Ariki led at Canoe Bock, being followed by Raweno, Marangi, and Victory together, and Aorere , and Daisy last. This order was maintamed to Shag Point, where A"riki was becalmed and was caught by Rawene, but the former got away with a tine breeze and finished first. Raweno was in* turn becalmed, arid was caught by Marangi, but eventually Rawene finislrcd in front. Ariki finished about two a.m. on Sunday, and the others arrived at varying intervals, with Daisy last at seven o'clock. , The corrected times place Marangi first, Raweno second, and Ariki third.
Owing to insufficient entries', the power-boat race was abandoned. ..- ■ '•
No races will be lwild next Saturday, as the Anniversary Day Regatta, takes place'on Monday, but races will take place on the succeeding Saturdays. .
