VIEWS OF SHIPMASTERS.

A ivncKTixo of shipowners and others interested in shipping was held ill tire Chamber of Commerce yesterday afternoon, for

the' purpose of taking tho evidence of several masters of vessels trading in and out of Auckland regarding the removal of the Mokohinau light to the Hen and Chickens Island. The Shipmasters' Association was represented by Mr. Nicholson (secretary), and Captains Bark, Haultain, Wilson, and McLeod, all of the Northern Steamship Company's steamers. Messrs. Ford , and Craig were present on behalf of the Shipowners' Federation, and the Coastal Masters' ' Association and the New Zealand Shipmasters' Federation were also represented. Mr. J. H. Clunson, president of the Chamber of Commerce, was in the chair, and Mr. L. Myers, vice-president, was also present. Captain Campbell, of the Craig line, and Captain Ross, of the schooner Ysabel, who are interested in the non-removal of tho light from Mokohinau to the Hen and Chickens, cross-examined several of the masters present, at length, in regard to their opinions why the light should be removed. The masters present, in voicing their opinions in favour of the light being shifted from Mokohinau to the Hen and Chickens, said they would not like to see the light shifted if another could not be provided on Busby Head.They also considered that a light and fog signal should be provided on i the Three-Kii^isu
