HULTON DISASTER.

THE COMPENSATION CLAIMS.

By Telegraph.— Association.— Copyright. London, December 30. A correspondent in the Pall Mall Gazette states that the claims under the Workers' Compensation Act in connection with the Hulton colliery disaster, will amount to at least £60,000. He adversely criticises the appeal to the public for funds for the aid of sufferers.

The Times says the average explosion rates in collieries has been rising since 1000. It declares that the Eight Hours' Act has stimulated speeding-up, and its working has possibly led to the dismissal of the slower order of workmen, and their replacement by younger and more careless men. The Workers' Compensation Act has produced the multiplication of certain classes of accidents and has fostered carelessness. ' ■ - a -• '
