FESTIVAL OF EMPIRE.

"A PARTY OF KING'S SUBJECTS."

[ET telegraph.—own correspondent.]

Christchurch, Friday. Mr. J. G. Head, who is chairman of the Finance Committee of the Festival of Empire, which is to be held in London next year, in a letter to a relative in Christchurch, writes: —"Just now my time is fully occupied with business connected with the Festival of Empire, which was postponed from last year on account of the late King's death. This year it will be a very much larger thing. It is to be a big family party of all the King's subjects here and beyond the seas. Included in the programme will be a London pageant with 1500 performers. The overseas dominions are each to have a building on the grounds. Canada is spending £100,000 on hers. Your people are taking part, and also Australia., India, Newfoundland, South Africa, and go on. There will be .a big game exhibition with the late King's specimens. The festival will form part of. the Coronation festivities, and probably th& King will open it."
