1 On his return to Sydney from Now ZeJ land M r V,. Henry, the secretary of the! Royal Lift l -Saving Society, had a fnrthe- ; conference with representatives of various amateur bodies in New South Wales on the subject of the representation of An*-' traha and New Zealand at the Empire' Sports Carnival in London during the Coronation festivities next year. From the report in the Sydney Referee I take the fol lowing:-The matter was discussed at length by tho delegates present, all of whom supported the scheme, but. mentioned the difficulty of raising the funds. It was stated; that, as the event was of such importance, the (Government should I>o approached to 1 the funds, or some portion at any' rate .Eventually it was decided that, pro-' ■ video the necessary funds- be forthcoming, and that the bodies represented agree, the meeting approve of the scheme. It was also decided to ask the Australasian bodies to make suggestions regarding the raising of the necessary funds. The chairman (Mr. R. Coombes) stated that if a representative team could be sent the chances of Australasia winning tho Festival of Empire trophy were bright, as a glance at the following 1 list he had roughly prepared would show:— 100 yds and 220 yds: AV. A. Woodger (New. Zealand! or Nigel Barker (N.S.AV.). 880vda and mile: O. A. . TVhea.tky (Victoria). Hurdles: .T. L. Davis (Victoria). Tennis: iV E. Brookes (Victoria) or A. F. "Wilding (New Zealand). Swimming: F. E. Beaurepaire (Victoria) and (or) Cecil Healr (N.S.W.). With regard to wrestling i.nd boxing, numerous names could be suggested from amongst tho first-Sight men in" Australia and New Zealand. He also mentioned tho many other good men available, such as Dargin (N.S.W., wrestler), Harold Hard wick (Js.S.W., boxer and swimmer), W. G. Harding (N.Z., middle-distance runner), Guy Haskins (N.Z., middle-distance runner). _ la addition to the names given, the chairman mentioned the fact that the Rhodes scholars at Oxford could he drawn: upon— Clemes (Tas.) and R. J. "Waddy (N.S.AV.), for example, in the distance-run-niiifr department—whilst that fine runner S. A. Mardea, late of the Sydney University A.C., was also now in Engls.nd on a visit. Mr. Marks went into the question erf oxpen so with a rough draft of the probable cost of the tour—about £750. Before tho meeting broke up it was unanimously resolved to ask Mr. Marks to net as hon. secretary, a 1; least until isueh a time as the matter took definite shape and a general committee of management was appointed.
