HARBOUR TAXATION.
FERRY BOATS, LIGHTERS.. TUGS.
Ferry boats, tugs, lighters, and every vessel of any type registered! in New South Wales are to be taxed by the Navigation Department. The tax is to take the shape of harbour and light rates, which have hitherto been charged only on sea-going vessels. The regulations of the Navigation Act have been in existence since 1901, but so far these harbour boats have escaped tho charges. Notice of the enforcement of the regulations lias been served on the various owners of vessels, the first half-yearly payment being duo at the end of the month. Some of the feny companies will have to pay a substantial bill each half-year.
