BLENHEIM CHAMPIONSHIPS.

SOME FINE PLAY.

[BT EGEAPH. —I KESS RATION.] Blekhkim, Friday. The Marlborough lawn tennis championships and handicaps wore continued today in perfect weather. The special features of the day's play were the games in which the lady competitors were engaged. Miss Ledger and Miss Butterworth, in the doubles, put up a great contest with Miss Travers and Miss Well wood, and almost had the champions beaten. Miss Batham and Miss Simpson, in the single championship round, played exceptionally well, and after the game received a great ovation. Some of the finals will be completed to-morrow. Fisher was not at his best to-day, suffering defeat at the hands of Smythe. The results are as follows: —

Ladies' Singles Championship.First round: Miss A. Batham beat Miss Brewster, 6—2, 6—4. Second round : Miss M. Simpson, beat Mrs. Waddy, 6 — 6—2; .Miss Kunnelly beat Miss Baird, 6 —l, 61; Miss Travers beat Mies M. Thomson, —1, 6— Miss Butterworth beat Miss V.
