POLICE COURT NEWS.
DRUNKENNESS.
Before Charles' Holder Woods came to the watch-house the other day to bail a friend out. he had sundry drinks, and by the time he came to carry out business with the police he was under the influence of liquor. It was unfortunate for Woods that he was in the presence of the police, for his benevolent action towards his friend led to bis. arrest, and he appeared at the Police Court yesterday, before Messrs. J. Jamieson and J. J. Jenkins, J.P.'s, to answer his third offence of
drunkenness within the last six months. He was fined £1, or 14 days.
Walter Armstrong, for drunkenness, was
fined 5s and costs £ Alexander Mellis was fined 10s, or 48 hours and two first offenders were convicted and discharged.
OTHER CHARGES.
For leaving material in the street not sufficiently lighted, George Rhodes was fined 10s and costs,-John Tnfyes was fined 5s and costs, and Robert John Entrican was fined 5s and costs. .
Thomas Eowles was fined 10s and costs for setting fireworks off in the street. Alfred Bray and Samuel Robinson, hawkers, were fined for remaining stationary in Queen-street for a longer period than necessary.
