AUCKLAND PETITIONS.

CONSIDERED BY COMMITTEES. [BY TELEGRAPH. — CORRESPONDENT. ] Wellington, Wednesday. A number of petitions presented, by various Auckland members were reported on to-day. The petition of Annie H. Hawking, of Auckland, for a compassionate allowance, on account of her late husband's services while employed in the Prisons Department, has been referred by the Petitions Committee to the Government for favourable consideration. The Public Petitions Committee has no recommendation to make on the prayer of W. T. Howard, of Auckland, for a sum of money and a grant of land for military services rendered. The 'petition promoted in Auckland for legislation to grant to the author or producer of any photograph the copyright in such photograph has been referred to the Government for consideration. The petition of 67 settlers of the Matamata County for the right of purchasing the freehold has been referred to the Government for consideration. The Lands Committee recommends that a compassionate allowance of £20 should be made to Harrielte Coreton, of Auckland. The petition that the tenants of the Thames High School endowment at Waiorongomai may have their leases taken over by the Government has been referred to the Government for favourable consideration. The Lands Committee has made no recommendation on the petition of 66 residents of Te Kopuru. that the reservation on section 24 and 127, Te Kopuru, be not lifted till the sections are drained and the lower depths of kauri gum worked.
