The Mayor of Birkenhead (Mr. Alex* Keves) has been granted 10 weeks' leave of absence by the Borough Council. Mr. Keves is going on a pleasure trip to Australia and the Islands. 'Mr. J. G. Kay has been, appointed Deputy-Mayor. The exhibition of paintings and sketches by Mr. Herbert E. Bebbage, which is being held at the Auckland Society of Arts Gallery in Coburg-street, ■ has" been , extended till Wednesday next. The gallery will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., each day, and as admission is free, lovers of art should not miss the work.
