ROAD BOARD MEETINGS.

ARCHHILL. • 'A meeting of the Archhill Roa3 Board was held on Monday evening. Present: Messrs. P. J. Hawtin (chairman), B. Wheeler, J. N. C. Somervell, J. Ewan, and A. G. Walker. A copy of the pro- • posed by-laws concerning the connection of sewers' and drains with the main sewers or main drains . belonging to the Board, was received from the Suburban Drainage Board. In discussing the .'urgency of the immediate connection with the . sewer being made, Mr. Somervell said he understood that they could cot connect with the sewer , lor five years from the time it was laid down. The chairman said he would make inquiries about the matter from, the engineer. It was decided to vote a sum not exceeding £8 to the ' fund to provide new uniform coats for the members of the District Fire Brigade. A petition, ' signed by seven grocers in the district, is being . forwarded to the Minister for Labour in reference to the closing time. The Board was asked. ■to certify that the petitioners represented a . majority of the trade in the district. It was decided that the chairman and clerk should sign a statement to this effect, to be forwarded to the Minister. After a discussion regarding the 'condition of the streets, it was resolved unanimously, " That, in the opinion of this Board, ■the time has arrived when a forward move for the betterment of the district should be made." The question of securing a surveyor was discussed, but was held over for the present to enable the Board to consider the whole matter of street improvements and drainage at a special meeting of the Board, to be held shortly. The ' chairman said the only way the work could be . carried out would be by the raising of a loan. A loan was also required for drainage purposes,and both proposals could be placed before the • ratepayers together.

EDEN TERRACE. The Eden Terrace Road Board met last night. Present: Messrs. H. B. Moor (chairman), R. McElwain, H. A. Good, G. Croft, J. W. J. Andrew', •W. H. Haslett. A discussion took phce on the ■ proposed loan for the carrying out of various worts in the district. It was decided to leave the matter in abeyance till an answer was received from the Superintendent of the Government Guarantee Advances Department in reference to the loan. The proposal before the Board . was the matter of raising a loan of £15,000, the suggested allocation of the money being- as follows:—Permanent construction of" all roads and streets in the district, £11,737 15s 4d; ex- ' tension of water mains, £271; purchasing land for widening- New North Road, and extending Brown-street from the new railway station to Violet-street, £1000; contingencies, engineering, etc., £1991 4s 3d. Mr. W. H. Haslett was appointed deputy-chairman of the Board. The clerk reported that Mr. Holdsworth, chief postmaster, iiad visited- Kden Terrace, and had expressed himself as favourable to a post oflice being established in the district. Mr. Moldsworth thought that as a site in Dominion Road was not available, the premises should be built near Porter's Avenue, adjoining Gladding and Hunter's old store. The chief postmaster promised to make a favourable recommendation to the Department. It was decided that a public meeting of residents be called as early as possible, with the object of approaching 'the Education Board, requesting that a school be established in the Eden Terrace district. Reference Was made to the inp.de<pjacy of the Mount Eden railway station. It was resolved, That the different local bodies be approached to make combined representation, with the view of having . the. long-contemplated new and up-to-date sta 0 - tion erected." * . .
