Mr W. Fanner Whyte and Mrs. Whyte, left by the Maheno last night for Sydney.

Dr. and Mrs. Bernan, of Apia, were passengers by the Maheno for Sydney last eight.

Mr. Horace Walker left with Mrs. Walker last night by the Maheno on a visit jk> Australia.

Mr. G. A. Gribbin, accompanied by Mrs. Gribbin, left on a visit to Sydney by the Maheno last night.

Dr. and Mrs. Merrill, of Meioourno, who arrived here by the Tofua last week, after visiting the Islands, left for Australia last night by the Sydney boat.

The Rev. Father Maher, of Auckland, has been appointed parish priest of the Taihape district in succession to the Rev. Father LaCroix. who returns to Wellington.

Mr. Howard Hadley, examiner to the Associated Board of Music, returned from To Aro'ha vesterdav. Ho left last evening -for Whangarei, to conduct the examinations there.

Mr. C. S. Gould has been appointed countv engineer for Kftwhia, out of 15 applicants. Mr. Gould has had considerable experience in the Roads Department, and was recently engineer for Ohura County.

Mr. P. C. Kearney, of the Onehunga railwav station staff, was presented last evening with a shaving set and smokers companion, on the occasion of his promotion to the position of leading officer. The presentation was made by the station- " master, Mr. W. M. Pole.

Miss Wvatt, head of the Auckland branch of* the Institute for Trained Nurses, Liverpool-street, will leave by the s.s. Tofua on Tuesday for Levuka, where she will take up the position of lady superintendent of the hospital which is being established there by the Fiji Government. Nurse Curtis, who has been on the staff of the Auckland branch of the institute for some time, will succeed Miss Wyatt.

Lieutenant-Colonel Bauchop was taken ill while on a visit to friends at Silverstream, and is still under medical treatment (telegraphs our special correspondent in Wellington). He is to be moved into Wellington as soon as his condition .will permit. Those Wellington residents who served with him in the Fourth and Seventh Contingents in" South Africa, arranged to entertain him this week, prior to his departure for England to gain further military knowledge.

Mr. Alexander Duncan, for many years manager of the seed aepoi cf the New Zealand Farmers' Co-operative Association, died suddenly at Lyttelton on Saturday night. Be had been appointed North Island representative for the association, and was on his way to Palmerston North, where he intended to make his headquarters. He was taken ill on the wharf when going from the train to the steamer, and died in the casualty ward. Mr. Duncan -was 53 years of age. Death was due to hemorrhage of the brain.
