Glover, Greenslade, and Poland, to with other Auckland members, had Binteresting themselves in the matter. is understood that Cabinet has niched a definite decision on the point, that on this decision being conveyed ! His Excellency the Governor (Lord Islington) he immediately gave orders that certain improvements should be undertaken in the grounds. The stables were jaentlv let at a rental of £1 15s a week, bat this lease is being cancelled. •The house is to be refurnished, and this toA will he pushed on as speedily as Visible. It is understood that the refurnishing will be on a better scale than before the dismantling of the residence look placeMessrs. Poland, Greenslade, and Glover intend urging that if all the furniture, is ] not,returned, at least certain portions, which are of historical value, should bo sent'back. Nothing definite can be ascertained whether it is intended to retain the wholeof the grounds as an annex to the residence, or whether part is to be handed o ver for the use of the University or Grammar School. It is understood Cabinet has not yet reached a decision on this point. " It- is interesting to note that during the past decade the time spent by various Governors in Auckland has averaged two -and a-half months per annum, this in mite of the fact that official duties have compelled them to spend a certain and considerable portion of their time in Wellington.
