HUSBAND SUES WIFE.
CLAIM FOR MAINTENANCE. [BY TELEGRAPH, —SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT.] Wellington, Monday. It is unusual for the husband to sue the wife for maintenance, but such an information was heard in the lower Court this morning, before Mr. Iliddell, S.M. An old man, the husband, climbed into the witness-box to give evidence in support of his application for an order, and related how ho had been disqualified from receivin" an old age pension because he was unable to produce a, statement of his wife's property. He went to his opulent spouse, who refused to give the information. Now he was bringing an action against her for support. He was living apart from his wife, and had absolutely no property. His counsel placed certificates before the Court to show that the wife was possessed of property valued at £1200 in Taranaki, and that she received a substantial income.
The documents, however, were not quite conclusive, and the precise amount of the respondent's income was not stated. The only question for the Court was what amount of his wife's income could be allowed for the support of her partner, and with a view of obtaining definite information the case was adjourned.
