ONE MONTH'S SHOOTING.
SEASON AT ROTORUA.. [BY telegraph.OWN • CORRESPONDENT.] - - Rotorua, Sunday. The Tourist Department, which is the controlling authority here, has ; authorised ■ a shooting season from May 14 to June 14 at. the usual license fee of £1, which some consider unreasonable on account of the short season. Pheasants*, quail, gray duck, and hares may be shot, and are fairly plentiful, especially quail and duck. A SOUTHLAND PROTEST. [BT TELEGRAPH. ASSOCIATION.] ' Invercargill, Saturday.WAt the annual meeting of the Southland Acclimatisation." Society last night nearly 300 members ■ were present. The following motion was carried as a protest against the action of the Department in declaring the hare shooting season open for only one . month -at the usual fee of £1 :"That the society donates 10s to each person in Southland who takes out a 20s license, provided the same is applied for and 1 subject to the consent of the Minister being obtained/'
