DEATH OF MR. ADOLPH KOHN.

The death occurred with startling suddenness yesterday' morning of Mr. Adolph Ivohn, jeweller. Mr. Kohn anneared to be in normal health on the previous day, and was perfectly cheerful on reaching his home in Milford Avenue. Mount Eden, in the evening. Early yesterday morning ho fell ill, and his condition quickly became serious. Dr. Girdler was summoned, and used all his skill to resuscitate Mr. Kohn, but without avail. Dr. Mackellar was also called in, but before he arrived death had taken place, heart disease being tbo cause.

Mr. Kohn, who was 53 years of age, was a native of Kolnar, Germany. He reached Auckland some 35 years ogo, and after starting business in Christchurch and Wanganui he returned to this city, and about 20 years ago founded Clio manufacturing, wholesale and retail jewellery business which he has carried on since, in Queen-street. Deceased was a man of retiring disposition, but he had a large circle of very warm- friends. He was of a very kindly character, and his generosity had almost passed into a provorb. Ho took a keen interest in sports of all kind. For several years he acted as timekeeper at all the big sports meetings, held in the city. He had donated trophies to practically every athletic body in Auckland. While he seemed to have a partiality for rowing, he was to be seen at practically all big athletic fixtures. He was a vice-president of the Auckland Rowing Association, Waitemata, North Shore, West End, and Auckland Rowing Clubs, and a large number of cricket, hockey, and football clubs throughout the Dominion. He also took a keen interest in Masonic matters. He was treasurer of the District Grand Lodge (Scottish Constitution), and a member of Lodge St. Andrew, 418. He was for years prominently associated with the Manchester Unity of Oddfellows. Ho was a member of the Fountain of Friendship Lodge, and was very liberal in every work of benevolence connected with the Order.

About 18 months ago Mr. Kohn married a daughter of the Hon. Thos. Thompson, M.L.C. He is survived by six older brothers. Two, Mr. Karl Kohn and Mr. S. Kohn, are in business in Auckland, another in Christchurch, two are in England, and ono in Germany. The funeral will leave the residence on Saturday, at two p.m. for the Purewa cemetery. Members of the District Grand Lodge (S.C.) are invited to attend. At a meeting, held last- night, of tho Auckland Tramways Sick and Accident Friendly Society, of which the late Mr. Kohn was an honorary member, a resolution was carried recording the society's appreciation of services rendered to trainwavs employees by tho late Mr. Kohn.
