THE BANK RETURNS.

In regard to the- quarterly bank returns Mr. J. H. Gunson, president of the Chamber of Commerce, speaking to a Herald representative, said it had been felt and indicated in commercial circles that the financial position of the country was in a more satisfactory position now than since the close of 1907, and the figures presented in the return amply bore that out. The rapid recovery was primarily accounted for by the largo returns from the export of the main products of the Dominion, such as, wool and butter. Mr. Gunson agreed that the outlook for the Dominion was exceedingly bright. Matters generally were on a more substantial basis, and prosperous times were ahead.

A well-known Auckland banker said the figures showed that the resources of the banks in the Dominion had been increased by nearly five and a-half millions during the quarter, which indicated that thero was an abundance of money available for all legitimate banking purposes. It was also an indication of the prosperous season the Dominion had enjoyed.
