NEW YORK LEGISLATION.

By Telegraph.—Press Association.—Copyright. New York, April 13. The New York State Assembly has, by 98 votes to 34, passed a Bill to prevent oral betting on racecourses.

In May of last year the New York courts decided that the anti-gambling law of the State only prohibited the registration of bets on a racecourse. Bookmakers have since don« much business by taking bets orally, the money being paid over in envelopes. An order to review the decision was recently granted, and Uie matter was dealt with a few months ago by the New York State Court of Appeals, which upheld the contention or. behalf of the bookmakers that oral betting on race tracks was not prohibited by the AntiGambling Act, passed, last year.
