UNION STEAM SHIP COMPANY.

IMPROVED EAST COAST SERVICE.

The Union Steam Shin Company has decided to improve the steamship service between Auckland and the East Coast bays, Gisborne, and Napier. The main object is to provide a much more frequent service to the East Coast bays than has been afforded by the s.s. Flora between the sailings of which vessel there have hitherto been considerable intervals. The e.s. Flora will be withdrawn and a smaller but more suitable steamer placed on the run. The intercolonial and coastal steamers now call regularly at Tokomaru, and when the s.s. Flora is replaced, a much improved service to the East Coast bays will be run. It is hoped that when the change i 6 introduced there will be a sailing from Auckland to the East Coast bays every fortnight, or even more frequently. It is also the intention of the 'company to run a first-clac6 light-draught steamer between Gkborne and Napier.
