AN ACCOUNTANT'S DEATH.
A FATAL LEAP.
Ax inquest was held yesterday by Mr. T. Gresham (Coroner) on the body of Charles Andrew \ Redgrave, whose death was recorded in yesterday's Herald.
The father of;.. the '," deceased, Andrew James Redgrave/deposed that his son was a. married man, about 27 years of age, an accountant, residing at Wellington.' On Sunday morning witness and his son (who was on a visit to Auckland) 'took a trip to Northcote. On returning to Auckland a heavy shower of rain came on, causing the deck of the ferry steamer to be somewhat slippery. As tho boat approached the wharf witness and his son descended into the cabin in order to take.shelter from the rain, and waited -there till the bulk of the passengers were, landed. They decided, to wait until the rain had stopped, when deceased discovered that the vessel was moving. ■'■», He ran quickly upstairs and jumped off the paddle-box, with the idea of landing on the .wharf. Deceased slipped, . however, and fell ; a distance of 15ft, striking his bead against the boat. When rescued blood was flowing from ; a wound above' the left ear. He was at once taken to the hospital.
The medical evidence showed that deceased's ! skull : was fractured and ; that there was much laceration of the brain. . This necessitated an", operation, but deceased gradually succumbed to his injuries. -
The jury returned a verdict that death was due to a fracture of the skull and laceration of the brain, accidentally received through misadventure.
