A COMPREHENSIVE PROGRAMME.

Loxdox, January 14. The Inspector-General of the New Zealand Forces is getting an exceptionally complete insight into the administration and training of the troops in England. The War Office has lost no opportunity of putting him into a position to learn all that is to be learned of tho science of military training and organisation, and ho will return' to New Zealand better equipped possibly than any colonial officer who has preceded him to England.

Arriving in England in the middle of 1909, Colonel Davies proceeded first to attend tho territorial manoeuvres on Salisbury Plain, and from that he was attached to the Second Cavalry Brigade for a fortnight's "training in the' same part of England. In September he put in a week with the Third Division at divisional training in Gloucestershire and Wiltshire, and five days in Interdivisional training in the same locality. Then for a week he was attached to the Inspector-General (Sir John French) on the directing staff at the army manoeuvres. Coming up to London ho put in 10 days attached to the Quartermaster-General at the War Office (Sir H. G. Miles), and then five days at the Mounted Infantry School at Longmoor. The next three weeks were spent at the War Office, with the Director of Mobilisation (Major-General Kwart) and the Adjutant-General (Sir lan Hamilton), and on November 1 lie was again back with tho cavalry at tho school at Xetheravon for a fortnight. Another-three weeks was spent at the War Office with the Director of Staff Duties (Major-General Sir I). Ilaig) and the Director of Military Training (BrigadierGeneral Murray).. Then ho put in a week watching the winter training of tho Second Cavalry Brigade at Canterbury. After enjoying a weak or two five during the holiday season. Colonel Davies will leave on Sunday for a staff conference at tho college at Camberlcy, and then back to the Mounted Infantry School at Longmoor. In February and March he will be attached to the general and administrative staff at Aldershot, and pay visits to the Royal Military College and Staff College. April will be spent in the spring training with the 10th Infantry Brigade at Shorn-cliff-e, mid visits to the arsenal nt Woolwich, the Ordnance College, and Ihe Military Academy at Chatham. In May tho Inspector-General will bo at battalion training at Shorncliffo and tho senior officers' course nt Hytlio, and the first week in Juno at artillery practice at- Salisbury. He will also accompany the Inspector General on inspection tours, and attend staff rides and coast defence practices before his period in England ends in July.
