Wellington, Monday. Tiik annual meeting of tho New Zealand branch of the British Medical Association is being • held in Wellington this week. Proceedings opened to-night with a soiree, at which tho presidential address was delivered by Dr. James A Purdy, of Lower Hutt. Among a largo company of guests was Sir John Batty Ttikc, the well-known specialist in the treatment of the mentally diseased, who .'arrived from London by the steamer Tainui, on Saturday. The retiring president (Dr. I. Moore, of Napier) introduced to 'the gathering the president-elect (Dr. , Purdy). After extending a. cordial welcome to tho visitors, Dr. Purdy proceeded to. discuss tho formation •of a national t,ypo in Now Zealand.
