A LITTLE KITE-FLYING.
HOSPITAL BOARD CRITICISED.
The Newmarket Borough Council recently, passed a resolution urging the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board to exercise tlio strictest economy in the' distribution of funds, - and complaining of the drain put by, the Board on local finances, and expressing a hope that a reduction would be made in the levy for the coming financial year. The Board yesterday considered this little bit of., pointed advice, and - on the motion of the chairman (Mr. C. D. Grey) morely received it.
Members palpably resented, the letter, however, and at the close of the meeting, Mr. M. : J. Covle found an opportunity to take the Newmarket Council to task.'.' After referring to it as a body that wrote and ( told the. Board how, to conduct its meetings, and how to keep down expenses, he said he had noticed a press report which said that the Council was going to object to making some payment to the. Board because a little girl sent from Newmarket had been refused admission to the hospital.' Mr. Coyle said that it was very unfair of the. Council to make such a statement without notifying the Board officially. He did not think tho Council should bo allowed to send up these toy balloons without the Board . taking some notice.
The Chairman (Mr. C. D. Grey) and the representative of the - Newmarket Council (Mr. E. H. Potter) disclaimed knowledge of the facts leading to tho Newmarket Council taking up such an attitude.
/'Mr.'P. M. Mackay : They are just doing a little kite-flying. .
