A fair tone prevailed upon the Bharemarkot yesterday. In investment lines Northern Steams (contributing) sold at 6s 4d. In mining lines Talismans were again done at 52», with sellers at 52s 3d and buyers at 525. Waihis also sold again at £10, sellers closing at that figure and buyers at 6d loss. Waihi Grand Junctions were in keen demand at increased rates, parcels being disposed of at from 35s 6d to 33s 9d to 33s 6d to 33s 9d to 33s to 33s 6d to 33s to 33s 3d. ' The Hich Commissioner's weekly market report, dated February 19, is as follows: — % Mutton: The market is firm, but the demand is onlv moderate. Stocks in hand arc light. Canterbury is extremely scarce, ami cannot be quoted. North Island averaged 3|d. Itiver Plate mutton isin small supply and is firmly held at 3id. Australian is freely offered at 3id. Lamb: The market is steady and there is good demand for prime quality. The average price of new season's Canterbury lamb is 5Jd (nominal). A large proportion of second quality iamb has arrived recently. The prices of New Zealand, other than Canterbury, range from sgd to 4}d. Beef: The market is quiet, but steady. Supplies of American chilled beef are large, but prices are unchanged at last week's quotations. New Zealand - hindquarters, 3Jd; forequarters, 2£d. Butter; The nu.rket is a shade weaker, but there is more demand. The present quotations are : —Choicest New Zealand butter, 118s per cwt; Danish, 1255; Australian and Argentine, 115s. The butter and cheese shipment ex Athenic arrived in good condition. Cheese: The market is firm. The price of finest New Zealand white is 60s and coloured 595,; Canadian, 2s more.
