hour. I , . Tremendous seas are running, and a large number of passengers by the Channel steamer have .been unable to land at Folkestone.
Thousands of telephone lines have been destroyed in London, and telegraphic communication' . between England and France is practically severed.
A mail train from Belfast to Larne, while travelling at a speed of 50 miles an hour, dashed into a landslide, the rear carriages being thrown into the sea. Forty passengers escaped serious injury.
