COMMERCIAL TRAVELLERS.
... —-— 1 QUESTION OF FEDERATION. ! ■ ■ .■... -,-. .-. *' ; " The eighth annual general meeting of the Auckland Commercial Travellers and Warehousemen's Association and Club "was held on Saturday night. .. In the unavoidable absence of the president {Mr. F. J. Connolly) Mr.. A. C. Stevenson was voted to the chair. -■•""". The committee reported thai satisfactory I progress bad been made in the direction of federation since the last annual report was issued. Since then the association had been .in frequent : communication with the Wellington and Dunedin Associations on the subject, the result of which was shown by the Wellington Association calling a special meeting of its members, at which federation was heartily proclaimed as the right principle. , The committee regretted that the Dunedin Association had passed a resolution at their annual meeting still refusing to join, but it was hoped that as time went \ on they would see the futility of standing aloof from the . sister associations of the Dominion. It was mentioned that a conference of delegates from the three associations in New .Zealand would be heM nest week, when the question of federation in all its aspects will be discussed. Messrs. G.Squirrell,D.W. McLean, and J. F. Fallen are the Auckland delegates ap- » pointed. * Mr. D. W. McLean spoke strongly in support of federation, and said it was only by uniting that they could gain concessions from the Government. It seemed absurd that theatrical companies, who took money out of the country, should have special concessions given them on the railways, while commercial travellers; who were constantly travelling and creating business for the railways by the forwarding of goods, should be totally ignored in this respect These remarks were heartily endorsed by those present, and the principle of federation was unanimously affirmed. , . The following officers were elected for the ensuing year: —President, Mr. W. J. Bainger; Tice-presi<kn», ; Sir J. Logan I Campbell, Messrs. J. Arneil, John Burns, I H. D. Heather; A. M. Myers, H. E. Alexander; trustees, Messrs. J. C. Macky and Geo. Squirrell; . general committee,. Messrs. SC A. Carr, I F. J- Gregory. J. J. Kirkbride, R. Mc--1 Millan, A. D. Wilson, A. J. Campbell, A. !'LG.
