• ' *'■,■"■ . . ♦ ■ ■ AN ALTERED CONSTITUTION. .. . FINALITY OP APPEALS. -'.;■ [BY - TELEGRAPH. —TRESS ASSOCIATION,] Wellington, Sunday.:' The conference of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants yesterday resolved that the regulations. requiring 48 hours to be worked before overtime rates .are paid be abolished, each day to stand by itself, this to apply to the workshops; that the necessity of the decision of the Appeal; Board being final ;be urged upon the Minister; that the constitution of the' Appeal Boards be altered so that the magistrate of the district where, an appeal occurs be the chairman; that* the Minister be urged to notify the appellants immediately of his decision in reference to' their appeals; and that the Department be requested to supply up-to-date fare books. The case of a member was considered who had been adversely reported on by his superior officer and applied for a copy of same and was refused. In this case the officer responsible' for making the report, failed to comply with the general manager's instructions. It was resolved that where adverse recpimmendations are made against members they should be acquainted with the nature of the report. This places the member in the position that his services may not be dispensed with without his being aware of the charges made against him, and ,116 therefore has. the, opportunity of defending himself. It was contended that there are many such cases where reports are made against members who have not been given an. opportunity of knowing precisely what they have been charged with. It was resolved to place the case before the Minister. |
