FRUIT AND PRODUCE MARKETS.

Business during the week on the local fruit and produce markets has been fairly brisk, supplies to the auction sales showing marked increase of new season's produce. New potatoes were in good supply, as regards quantity, but quality generally was poor to inferior, owing to blight forcing digging. Old potatoes were in short supply at advanced prices. The onion market was bad, fair shipments of new Sydneys, of poor quality, arriving, and selling slowly. Butter and eggs showed no change. Poultry sold high. The fruit market was fairly well supplied, and throughout good values ruled. The first hothouse grapes were offered. Following were tho ruling prices at tho auction sales yesterday : — Field Produce.—: Southern, prime, £5 15s, £6. Onions: Victorian, 14s to 16s; new Sydney, 7s to 9s. Dairy Produce.—Butter: Farmers', in prints, prime, 9d, 9|d; farmers', bulk, prime, B£d; milled, in bulk for export, 10d, 10id. Eggs: Fresh, 9£d, lOd. Fruit.—Apples: American, 15s. Grapes: Hothouse, 2s sid lb. Tomatoes: Hothouse, first, 7d to 9id lb; seconds, 4Jd to 6d lb. Oranges: Local, 15s to 18s case; Island, 20s case; Sydney, 6s to 10s case. Mandarins : Sydney, first, 14s to 15s case; seconds, 4s to 6s case. Lemous: Local prime, 6a to 8s case; fair, 4s to 5s case; Sydney. 6s to 7s case- Cherries: Local, Is 6d lb. Passion fruit, ,15s to 20s case. Gooseberries, 4s lOd to 7s box. Walnuts, 7d lb. Peanuts, 2id lb. Bananas, 4s to 5s bunch; lid to 2jd lb. Pines, 6s to lis crate. Poultry.
