CABLE SERVICE INQUIRY.
GONE FAR ENOUGH. By Telegraph.—Press Association.—Copyright . Melbourne, November 19. An officer of the Government's Statistician's Department stated at the inquiry into the cable service to-day that there were 224 daily papers in the United Kingdom and 67 in Australia, giving an average per million of population of 5.04 for United Kingdom and 15.82 for Australia. There were 2664 weeklies in the United Kingdom and 774 in Australia, the average per million in the United Kingdom being 59.95 and for Australia 1&2.85. . The committee has adjourned to Sydney. - •. ; , ' In the Senate, Senator Neild moved that he be discharged from further service on the cable committee, and this was ' agreed to. Senator Neild < stated that he . would speak on the matter ■ in -the Senate, and would not given' reasons tilli then, but told ■■: an interviewer that he thought the affair had gone far enough. .
