DROWNED WHILE BATHING.
[BY . TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] * ■ Huntly, Monday. Frank - Hacghton, 26 years of age, employed as a trucker in the Extended mine, was drowned while bathing yesterday.'; : Deceased, accompanied by two men named . Broadbent and , Ward, . went to Lake Waalu, and, on arrival, stripped, entered a canoe, and pushed off from the bank. When a short * distance from shore; deceased dived from the canoe, and to the consternation of his companions, who were unable to swim, he , failed to re-appear. . , Help. was sought from the Taupiri West mine, and a man named Snell came to the scene. Snell, on diving, found the body in 7ft of water,'face downward on! the bed of the lake, with the hands stretched in a diving position. Remedial measures were used, but in vain, life being extinct. It is believed that deceased, on striking the water, took a fit. He came to New Zealand about two years ago from England, where it is said he left a wife and child. •.
