AN AUCKLAND " ZOO."
HON. E. MITCHELSON'S OFFER. The question of the establishment of a "Zoo." in the Auckland Domain was raised at the meeting of the City Council last night. The city engineer, Mr. W. E. Bush, reported that the Hon. E. Mitchelson had very kindly offered to present pheasants of two or three different varieties to tho Council, to be placed in the Auckland Domain. " I have," continued the engineer, "already mentioned the matter to the Works Committee, but in view of the fact that the keeping of live stock of any kind in the Domain raises tho whole question of the establishment of a zoological collection in Auckland, I was advised to bring the matter officially before the full Council. I have conferred with M*i\ Pearson, superintendent of parks, on this subject, and also on the larger question of the establishment of a zoological garden in the Domain, and I feel it but right to inform the Council that Mr. Pearson does not favour tho establishment of zoological gardens for the keeping of live stock in the Domain unless a special area independent of the gardens, is set aside for the purpose." The matter was referred to the Works Committee. ,
