ENTERTAINMENTS.

,V'.' TOMMY BURNS. >% This evening at His Majesty's Theatre Tommy Burns, ex-champion of the world, will make his bow before an Auckland audience. The booking has been very heavy. The principal attractions outside the appearance of Tommy Burns will bo the meeting of the ex-champion with Tom Lees, who has consented to box three exhibition rounds, and the wrestling between Joe Gardiner and Herbert May. Several willing rounds are expected from tho following well-known boxers, who will appear:-— Murphy, Jim Ross, C. Cotteral, Femberty, Armstrong, and pupils of Professor Lowe. The box plan is now on view at Wildman and Arey's. Day sale tickets for early doors only at His Majesty's Cafe. TIVOLI THEATRE. Pictures were a secondary feature of the entertainment given at the Tivoli Theatre last evening. The main attraction was the first appearance in the suburban house of tho "All Star" Vaudeville Entertainers. There has been little vaudeville on the Auckland boards for .some time, and the performer's last evening were greeted by a. good upstairs house and a large and somewhat noisy crowd in the " gods." One of the cleverest turns was that of George Sorlie, coon impersonator and baton manipulator. Mr. Sorlie proved entertaining with both voice and hands. His coon impersonations were to the life, and his juggling distinctly clever. Another very acceptable item was a sketch entitled "The Coming Man " in which Miss Woods, Geo. Sorlie, Walter Jamieson," and Gus. Armor, took part. While they were on the stage these clever people kept the house in a continuous scream with a well constructed little farce. The rest of the programme fell considerably below the standard of theso two u turns. Shaw and Armer gave a moderately clever exhibition of freakish boxing, and indulged in " patter," which followed on well-beaten lines. The Daphne Sisters and Miss Pearlie Golden made their bows as serios and dancers, but a much better exhibition of the tcrpsichorean; art has been given in Auckland. Their voices are mom penetrating than sweet. The best part of Miss Woods' ballads, was their moral. Mr. Walter Jamieson appeared as a character vocalist with fair success, and Mr. Dick Shaw in humorous absurdities. The company will appear again this evening. £' % - ■--' --'i i i- ■ ■ •■ "• "' ,;■ OPERA HOUSE. ■ -|; There was a very large attendance at;the Opera House last night, when the- new programme of Wide-World Pictures was again shown. The great dramatic film,' " The Gambler," was loudly applauded. A number of other pictures were greatly admired. , Mr. Fred. Stokes' orchestra adds greatly"to; the enjoyment of the programme. On Saturday, at the matinee, the management will give a useful present to all children attending.

THE ROYAL ALBERT HALL.? " The Matinee Idol" is still first favourite at Pathe Pictures, and this pictorial satire certainly deserves the enthusiastic appreciation bestowed on it. The historic film. "The Days of Cromwell," is a fine coloured subject, and the comedy. section is especially good. The same programme will be given to-night. ' ■' ""•■'■" PROFESSOR BICKERTON. To-night at the Y.M.C.A. Hall,- under the direction of Mr. Hayward, Professor Bickerton will lecture on " The Romance of the Heavens." The lecturer is well known in astronomical circles in connection with his " Theory of the Impact," and is said to be an orator of fascinating powers. ; v "JACK AND JILL." A large house greeted the final production of the pantomime "Jack and Jill." His Majesty's Theatre last evening. The company proceed to New Plymouth to-day. . ~ AMATEUR DRAMATIC. ~ A dramatic production entitled "Maste* and Man "is to .take place in the Avondale Public Hall to-night.' "'" v " ' ; LECTURE RECITAL. An enjoyable lecture recital on the antique instruments, viola de Gamba and viola d'Amore. was given by Mr. Henry Saint George, H.T.C. examiner (London), before a large gathering in the Inderal Clubrooms last night, under the auspices of the Auckland Society of Musicians. Mr. Saint George contributed a number of items on the viola d'Amore, and several vocal items were rendered. : - : ~f: ....>'-:."''.">7v-.
