The- tug failed to make an api::;h pearance, and at half-tide the ship was ,; ' released from her moorings and drifted towards Dargaville. Allowance had evi- ' dently not, been made for the strong tide'v rip, which was increased by the wind-force, . 'find, being caught' in the eddy at the ■'•'•.''{mouth of the Awakino Creek, the ship '■,': fras carried shorewarda immediately above 'Dyer's wharf. The steamer Holmdale ;,.'•.'went to her assistance, but while towing [her clear the towline broke, and, unfortunately, got round the eteamer'e propeller, '...; •causing her protracted disablement. Cap- : tain Woebling then, got stern hawsers to ■ r, Wi adjoining wharf, and, with considerable skill, succeeded in ultimately anchoring his shin in mid-channel. Her previous position, was anxiously watched by a large crowd of interested spectators, for ■'••■,'.'.:.:■■ pad the efforts to release her from the (bank proved futile, nothing could have feared her from capsizing, as did her sister v V ship, the Wai-iti, some two years ago, a - mile lower down the river.
