London, August 18. An international landing party marched up to the Canea fortress, Crete, and removed the Greek flag, which had been nailed to the mast above the fortress.
The flag was hauled down without incident, there being no hostile demonstration. by the Cretans, despite their declaration that they would fight to the last ditch rather than permit the flag-to be lowered.
