Now that the 'Morse signalling is being used more and more extensively in the merchant service, it is interesting to note that, the system is being thoroughly taught on the training-ship Amokura. Knot only are the cadets taught to receive messages by flashlight and by flags, but also by Bound, and thus they will be ready to pick up signals sent in a fog. This system has an advantage, too, inasmuch as where one is slow to pick up signalu with the eye, his car may be sharper for the business, and vice versa. Commander Hooper,, of tbe Amokura, is himself an expert operator. - "WHARF ACCOMMODATION AT GISBOBNE. • *. 5 Mr.-McLeod, Harbour Board overseer at Gisborne, has commenced-the-construction of additional wharf accommodation at Gisborne for the , new dredger Maui on its arrival ■■from .Scotland.
