AUCKLAND CLUB'S CHAMPIONSHIP. The championship of the Auckland Golf Club will be decided to-morrow between J. Burns and P.. Upton. On past performances Burns should win, hut this season has witnessed so many surprises that- if Upton is in good form it is quite possible that he will take the honours from the ex-champion. The mixed foursomes announced on the programme for to-inorrow will not be played until after the New Zealand championship, the probable date being September 25. ■ The final match in the Ernest Bloomflcld competition will be ployed on September 11.

O'Neill, 74, 2252; Miss' L.' Mason, 75, 22—53; Miss Swarbrick, 80, 26—54; Miss V. Hunter, 86, 30—56. LADIES' CHAMPIONSHIP MEETING. TWO EX-CHAMPIONS BEATEN. [BY -TELEGBAFH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Talmerston-North, Thursday. There was delightful weather for the postponed starting of the New Zealand Ladies' Golf Championships at Hokowhitu. The sandy links had thrown off the water wonderfully, and beyond that the ground was 'soft round about the four greens, mid a small lake-made an additional liazojd, the course was in really, good order. The first round of the championship resulted in two ex-champions going out; Miss Rattray (Dunedin), thrice champion, went down to Miss Braitllwaite, of Hastings, by 3 to 2, after playing much below form, and Mrs. Bidwill (Wairarapa), another ex-champion of New Zealand, went put to Miss B. Wood, of Christchurch, on the 18th hole» The present champion, 'Mies Christie,' Oaniaru, had. a bye. The other leading players came through, without trouble. Par for the course under L.G.U. system was 82, and the nearest, anyone got to it was a 93, by Mrs. Bevan. This was closely followed by a 94 by Miss Snodgrass, of Westland, in a handicap, and 95 <by Miss Stephenson, the Taranaki crack and ex-cham-pion. l'he - winning team in the teams match, Wairarapa, actually had an average of only a fraction under 106. Miss Stephenson's 95 for Ngamotu was five less than any other score in the teams, which was decided on the stroke. The handicap of the afternoon (stroke) saw MiSS Humphries, Chrietchurch, produce a good round of 100, and as she had a 21 handicap, it netted 79. To-morrow the second round in the championship will be played, as well as the ladies' foursomes.
