THE RUGBY GAME.

MEETING OF AUCKLAND UNION.

A MEETING of the Management. Committee of the •Auckland Rugby Union was held in the Amateur Sports CI 11 broom last night, there being present: Mr. M. ,T. Sheahan (chairman), and Messrs. C. I'. Stichbury, .R. H. Froude, S. W. Somerfleld, F. .1. Ohlson, and C. V. Langsford (secretary). Poverty Bay Touring Team: A letter was read from Mr. H. E. Maude (manager of the Poverty Bay Rugby Union's touring team) thanking the Auckland Union for their kindly reception and hospitable treatment of the members of the party on their recent visit to Auckland.

Waitemata Swimming Club: The Waitemata Swimming Club's football branch wrote asking for permission to play men who arc members of clubs under the Auckland Rugby Union's jurisdiction in matches against Oievedon and Riverhead teams. The club undertook that every care would lie taken to adhere to the Auckland Rugby Union's rules. The necessary permission was granted. Disqualifications The secretary of the North Shore District Football Club wrote reporting that three more members of the club had played under Northern Union rules. It was decided to forward the names to the New Zealand Rugby Union. The secretary of the Rotorua Rugby Union wrote forwarding the names of 26 players who had taken part in the Northern Union cup match at Rotorua on Saturday. It was decided to forward these names also to tie New Zealand Rugby Union. Championship Trophies: The question of presenting trophies to members of teams which have won grade championships was discussed. The custom in the past has been to pretent members of teams with caps, but this year an alteration has been suggested, and the secretary submitted an offer received for medals, with "the A.R.U. monogram on one face, the suggestion being to present gold medals to seniors and silver medals, with gold monograms, to juniors. Maniapoto Union's Protest: Mr. A. S. Gresbftin (secretary of the Maniapoto Rugby Union) wrote in regard to the New Zealand Rugby Union taking upon itself to place the Mamapoto Union under the jurisdiction of the South Auckland Union, The letter went on to say that at a meeting of the Maniapoto Rugby Union, held on Monday evening, it was unanimously agreed to protest against inclusion in the South Auckland Rugby Union. The following copy of a telegram sent to the secretary of the. New Zealand Rugby Union was enclosed":—" Maniapoto Rugby Union absolutely objects to be brought under South Auckland jurisdiction.'" The writer of the letter added that he hoped the Auckland Union would help them and continue as their parent body. The Auckland Union decided to reply pointing out that they had already written to the New Zealand Rugby Union protesting against the boundaries being allotted without consultation of the affected bodies. The Maniapoto Union also wrote asking for permission to play the King Country at Taumarunui on the 28th inst., and also asking if the union was favourable to the King Country Union affiliating with Maniapoto for the rest of the season. Permission was granted to the Maniapoto Union to play King Country

NEXT SEASON'S PROSPECTS.

The Auckland Rugby Union decided last evening to hold a general meetirg on October 6 for the purpose of discussing next season's prospects and policy. To this meeting will be invited the officers and delegates of the union and the officers of district clubs and Referees' Association. It is understood that the principal theme of discussion will be the disparity between the senoior district teams, and suggestions will be invited for preventing a repetition of this next season. WEDNESDAY UNION. The representative . trial rhatch to have been held under the auspices of the Wednesday Tradesmen's Union yesterday was postponed owing to the wet weather. AUCKLAND REPRESENTATIVE TOUR. ARRANGEMENTS COMPLETED. The Auckland Rugby Union representatives tour as far south as Blenheim this year, the party comprising 20 players, under Mr. 0. P. Stichbury, a member of the A.R.U. Management Committee, who will act as manager. The team leave Auckland by the Main Trunk express on Monday evening next, and will arrive at Wellington on Tuesday afternoon. Seven 'of the party will take part in the North v. South Island match, which is being played at Wellington on Wednesday. The members .of the party will stay at the New Zealander Hotel while in Wellington. On Wednesday evening the team leave Wellington for Blenheim, where they play Marlborough on Thursday, returning the same evening to Wellington. The representatives of the Empire City union will be played on Saturday. The party leave Wellington on Monday for Wanganui, where a match will •be played on the Tuesday. Hie Metropolitan Hotel will be the rendezvous of the team in Wanganui. On Wednesday the party leave Wanganui for New Plymouth, and on the following day (September 2) the match against Taranaki will be played. The team will stay at the Criterion Hotel while in New Plymouth. The team will return to Auckland by rail, and, playing Maniapoto at Te Kuiti on September 4, will arrive at Auckland on Sunday, the sth.

TARANAKI V. HAWKE'S BAY. A WIN FOR TARANAKI. [BT TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.] I Napier, Wednesday. The representative football match, Taranaki v. Hawke's Bay, was played this afternoon in fine bracing weather, and resulted in a win for Taranaki by 14. points to 8. The ground was in good order, and" there was a moderate south-westerly wind blowing. About 4000 spectators were present The visitors won the toss and played with the wind behind them. They made rush after rush, but Hawke's Bay put up a good defence. Stohr took a good mark, and Cameron taking the kick sent the - ball through the posts, drawing

first blood for Taranaki. Hawke's Bay attacked frequently, until a strong Taranaki rush changed the aspect of affairs. O'Sullivan passed to Crowley, who scored. The attempt to convert failed. On changing ends Taranaki were aggressive, and after a brief change of fortunes O'Sullivan passed to Pine, who raced down the field and scored, the try being converted by Cameron. From this on the game became fast anil veered slightly in Hawke's Bay's favour. A communication was received inviting a team to play at Dunedin, Invercargill, and Tim aril. It v as decided that in view of the approaching tour of the Kangaroos not to send a team South this season. A letter from the league in Australia in reference to the tour of the Kangaroos was received, and the secretary was instructed to reply giving full particulars legarding arrangements and dates. A match between the North Shore Albion and town juniors, to be played at Victoria Park next Saturday, was sanctioned. KANGAROOS MAY VISIT AUCKLAND. In referring to the proposed visit of the Kangaroos to New Zealand the Sydney Referee says:— " Auckland has asked the New South Wales League to send a team to New Zealand this season. It is likely that a team will be sent, leaving on September 11 or 18. to play at Auckland, Wellington, and one of the Maori clubs."
