THAMES SCHOOL OF MINES.

Thames, Wednesday. At the usual monthly meeting of the Thames School of Mines Council, held las* evening, the director's report stated that he estimated tho cost of material for the conduct of the High School chemistry class would amount to about £20 per annum, the average attendance at the class being 24. The number of public assays for,, the month was given as 24, of which six were for prospectors. The secretary ;of the Karangahako School of Mines wrote proposing that a joint application should bo * made to the Department' by "the various schools in "the district for an interim examination for mine and battery managers' certificates, to be. held some three months after the result of the annual examination was made known, so as to enable candidates who had obtained partial passes to complete them as soon as possible instead of waiting for tho next annual examination. This was agreed to. The Minister for Mines wrote in regard to the application of the council for a grant of £275 for expenditure on the new experimental plant, to tho effect that the application; had been duly recorded and would receive careful consideration.
