SHOPKEEPERS' "BLACK LIST."
FEOPLE WHO LIVE ON "TICK."
[by TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.]
f \ ;•- '-; Wellington, Friday. Members of; the New Zealand Shopkeepers' Association have decided to keep a "black list" on which will be inscribed the names of. individuals who are living upon "tick." On the seldom occasions upon which local traders permit themselves to visit the theatre, or the racecourse, they invariably see a number of notoriously "bad marks" arrayed in purple and fine linen, and enjoying life to the full. There is supposed to be a slump on in Wellington at the present, and yet. the Opera House is crammed to the doors every night 'with-paying guests. Theatrical managers are not foolish enough to give credit, but in the fierceness of competition the trader does. Then, if he be musically inclined, he can whistle for his money. In a moment of annoyance (says the Post) a "black list" is decided upon, but it is never of any use. In a week's time the idea will have been forgotten, and cheeky bluffers, who "live on the mugs," will continue on the same old game.
