When the Auckland Football Association called for guarantees from affiliated clubs for the purpose of raising the guarantee asked by the New Zealand Council toward the cost of bringing .; the South African team to the Dominion the only response came from a third division club. The St. David's team, which offered a guarantee of £1, thus have earned some distinction by their enterprise. . The Auckland Football Association displayed a very commendable attitude toward the amateur side of. snort when they refused!- -to- play a. A most successful social and euchre tournament was given by the members of the Caledonian Club on Thursday evening last in tho Foresters' Hall, Newton. There were a large number of friends of the club present, and the evening passed off successfully, this being mainly due to the efforts of Messrs. Barber and Hilford, who had the whole arrangements in hand. The gifts handed in were given to the Bazaar Committee. '■

Those desirous of witnessing a close contest should see the match between St. Peter's and Tabernacle to-day. Owing to the Victoria Park grounds being in use to-day, tho match has to be played between 1.30 p.m. and three p.m. at Eden Park, Kingsland. ■ .
