ACCOUNTANTS' DINNER.

The annual dinner of the New Zealand Accountants' and Auditors' Association was held at "The Tiffin" last night, when over 100 persons, including several delegates and visitors, assembled. The president of the association (Mr. Henry Shaw) occupied the chair. Jn submitting the toast of " The Accountancy Profession," the chairman referred to the calling as an ancient and honourable one. Although practically in its infancy, as far as New Zealand was concerned, the first step in the direction of raising a very important, body had been taken by the passing of the Accountancy Act last session. This, he was convinced was a stepping-stone to great things in the Dominion. (Applause.) Messrs. A. (Jrie.rson, U. H. Modlin, and \V. K. Best responded. The Legislature" was proposed by Mr. G. B. Osmond, and Mr. F. K. Uaumo and Mr. C. H. Pool*, M.P.'s, responded. "Commercial Interests was proposed byMr. Potter, and responded to by Messrs. A. O. Brown and H. E. Paoey. " The Legal Profession " was given by Mr. Howarth, and acknowledged by Messrs. C. J. Parr and R. MeVcagh; and the concluding toast was "The Delegates,'' proposed by Mr. D. B. McDonald, and replied to by several of the visiting delegates. During the evening the chairman presented Mr. Wilberforco with a handsome silver bowl, in recognition of the active part he had taken in the formation of the association. The recipient's health was drunk with musical honours.
