Ho is now devoting himself to a close study of political questions, and with the object of familiarising himself with colonial matters he has undertaken his present trip, taking in Australia and Canada as well us New Zealand.
Lord Stanhope, who is staying at the Geyser Hotel, Whakarewaiewa, informed a Hkraij) representative this evening that his principal object was to gain information for hj£ private use, and he regretted that lie could not extend his stay in New Zealand beyond March 8, when he would leave the Bluff for Hubart. He was, he said, greatly charmed, with what he lias seen of Rotorua, and particularly the sights of Whakarewarewa, which he thoroughly explored to-day. "Itis a weird and extraordinary place," he remarked. "In fact, I may say that it is the most weird and interesting placo that I have ever been in.
Lord Stanhope will remain here until Monday, when he. will leave for Wellington, via the Main Trunk line and tho Wanganui River.
