GARDEN PARTY.
HON. G. FOWLDS'. FRIENDS /ENTERTAINED. •
A large number of the friends and supporters of the Hon. Geo. Fowlds, Minister for Education and Public Health, including the members of his election commitse, were entertained by Mr. and Mrs"; Fowlds on Saturday afternoon at a 'garden party at their residence, "Graystone Knowe," at Mount Albert. The afternoon was all that couiu be desired for such a gathering,.and the function passed off most. successfully, there being nearly 1500 persons present. Two special trains were engaged to convey the guests to and from the city, and the intermediate stations. The visitors upon arrival were received by Mr. and Mrs. Fowld» on the lawn in front of the house. Large marquees were erected in the pleasantly situated grounds, and in these refreshments were dispensed during the afternoon. The pleasurable nature of the gathering was also enlivened by musical. selections from an efficient orchestra. Among those present were: The Hons. B. Harris, W. , Beehan. and W. W. McCardle, M.L.C's., and Messrs. H..Poole, - arid W. T. Jennings, M.P's. '' ; Prior to the dispersal of the guests Mr. Fowlds delivered a brief address in ' which ho expressed • the pleasure felt by Mrs. Fowlds arid himself at seeing such a large number preterit. He also took occasion' to thank his supporters, and the members of his committees, for. their • continued confidence in him as the representative of the Grey Lynn electorate. He particularly referred to the long and loyal' services of Messrs.; J. ..enkin and F. M. King, chairman and secretary, respectively of his executive committee. Mr. King, he regretted to sav. had decided to relinquish the secret;)ship of his committe, -in which capacity, he had rendered him (Mr. Fowlds) such valuable assistance for many years. The proceeding's terminated "with cheers for Mr. and Mrs. Fowlds, and for Messrs. King and Jenkin, who also briefly addressed the gathering. ',->■■'
