The ■ secretary of the Canterbury Acclimatisation Society has received a letter from the High Commissioner's office, London, stating that the deer for the society were shipped, free of freight, on the Papanui on October 2. The deer comprise three stags and nine hinds. Six tonfe of English meadow hay have been shipped for food, along with crushed maize and rock salt. The deer are under the special care of a qualified member of the. crew. An excellent dairying season is being experienced at Carterton, and dairy factories are paying out large cheques. The Dalefield dairy factory paid out the sum of £1004 12s 8d for the four weeks ending , October 26,, which exceeds any previous payment for a similar period by ivloO.
