A LADY MAYOR.
THE FIRST IN ENGLAND. By Telegraph.— AmocUUou.—Copyright, (Received November 11, 11.50 p.m.) London, November 11. Dn. Elizabeth G. Anderson lias been elected Mayor of Aldeburgh, in Suffolk. She Is the first lady Mayor to be elected in England. Mrs. I). E. G. Anderson is tho widow of tho late Mr. J. G. H. Anderson, shipowner and managing director of the Orient, line of Royal mail steamers, and is 72 years of ago. She began the etudy of mediciin in- 1863, but the Colleges of Surgeons and Physicians refused to admit her to their examinations. She was, however, admitted to tho examinations of the Society of Apothecaries, and obtained Us license to practise in 1866. She then passed the medical examinations of the University of Paris, and received her M.D degree in 1870. Mrs. Anderson was elected to tho first School Board for London, in 1870, and last year gained u ecat in the Aldeburgh Municipal Council. ifSho ie the honorary secretary of the Imperial Vaccination League.
