NAUTICAL INQUIRY.
GERTIE-PENGUIN COLLISION. [BY TELEGRAPH.PRESS ASSOCIATION.]. Wellington, Wednesday. The decision of the Court appointed to inquire into the circumstances of the collision between the steamers Gertie and Penguin, off Cape Jackson, on September 3, was given to-day. ; : ? In Dr. McArthur's opinion,' the Penguin, a a the overtaking vessel, ought to have kept out of the Gertie's way, and had she done so the collision would not have occurred. The master of the Penguin did what was right ken he came on deck, but he.was too late. The Court held Frederick Gamble, the second mate of the Penguin, responsible, and his certificate was suspended for three months.
