AUCKLAND DRAINAGE BILL.

REPORTED by COMMITTEE. THE PAR-NELL PROTEST. [BY TICLKCJHAI'II. —SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT.] Ellington, Wednesday. The Auckland Drainage Bill was reported to the House of Representatives this afternoon by the Local Bills Committee, with the various amendments that, have been agreed upon 'by the local bodies interested since .the conference took place in Wellington between tho representatives of the City Council' and the Parneli, Remuera, and Orakei representatives. ' The. composition of -the drainage board is amended in accordance with Hie agreement arrived at. '.rite board is to consist of the M'ayor and councillors of the city of Auckland and the Mayors and chairmen of the other contributing bodies. .The Mayor of Auckland shall be chairman of the board, and shall have a casting as well as a deliberative vote. The principal works which the board is to be authorised to construct are the main sewer, and such other main branch sewers as may be considered advisable to enable the- various bodies to connect their drainage system with the main line. The main branch sewers particularly specified are the one at Remuera (as agreed upon), that from Wilson Point East to the junction ,of the Great. South Road and Greenlane, the Hobson Bay main sewer and main branch sewer, the two branch sewers at Ponsonby, and the Archhill gully and Meola Creek branch sewers. The Orakei district, ar agreed upon, i u excluded from the schedule of the Bill The other amendments are of a machinery and consequential . nature. The amended plan, which has been adopted for the purpose of meeting the wishes of the Orakei natives, shows the main sewer as running around instead of across Orakei Bay. Mr. F. Lawry, M.P., attended the meeting of the committee, and stated that he had received a telegram from the Parnell Borough Council, objecting to, the basis of assessment provided in the Bill, and asking that the Bill bo deferred till next session. The committee did not accede to the request, but decided to recommend that the Bill be allowed to proceed. The Bill will come before the House tomorrow. •
