PERSONAL ITEMS.
Captains Rogers and Furneaux arrived from Wellington by the Rotoiti yesterday. Mr. Justice Sim, of the Arbitration Court, came up from tiho South yesterday by the Rotoiti. The Ven. Archdeacon Walsh, of Waimate North, arrived in Auckland from Russell by the Clansman yesterday. Captain Renaut, of the Union Company, accompanied by Mrs. Renaut, arrived from the South by the Rotoiti yesterday. Governor Solf has not yet returned to Apia, but is expected to arrive there early in November. He was recently married in Germany. Dr. J. S. Purdy, district health officer, and Dr." Buck, native health officer, were passengers from the Bay of Islands by the Clansman yesterday. Mr. E. C. O'Brien, of the Lands and Survey Department, arrived from Hokitika yesterday, in order to take up an »p pointinent in" the Auckland office. i A Press Association message states that the Wellington Presbytery lias decided to nominate the Rev. I. Jolly as moderator of the General Assembly. The Hawke's Bay Presbytery has com© to a similar decision. Lieutenant F. H. Jackson, of No. 3 Company Garrison Artillery, was entertained at a complimentary smoke concert last evening by the members of the Auckland Non-commissioned Officers' Club, of vhich he was one of the founders, and was pre- , sented with an officer's sword to mark his j promotion from the non-coms, ranks.
